Comrades: District F along with other Districts have been given the opportunity to take over the cleanup of "The Highway of Heros" which goes from Trenton to Keele Street in Toronto. As the majority of this highway is in our District, I am asking that you reach out to your Branches not just the ones along the highway corridor to see if they would be receptive in taking part in this cleanup.

We are extremely fortunate that there are two Silver Cross Mothers who are involved in this Mrs. Mendes who is from the Grafton area and Mrs. Luffman who is from the Port Hope area.

The cleanup is usually done in the spring and fall and only involves off ramps approved by the MTO no-one will actually be on the main highway for safety reasons. 

This is as stated a great opportunity to once again honour our fallen Veterans who unfortunately have had to travel this highway. We have always been there to show our respect, support to our Veterans, appreciation and sympathy to those who have had to make this journey.

Please lets once again honour them by cleaning up THEIR highway. Branches who wish to get involved can also include community members or groups and some Branches involved may be asked to provide a lunch for those doing the cleanup. Cleanup will take place on various weekends and the MTO will make sure all safety concerns will be addressed and the OPP will be included.  MTO will provide garbage bags, and pick up the garbage. Individuals will need running shoes, gloves, a pick up stick and vest some of which can be purchased at the dollar store or on Amazon, perhaps some Branches can purchase some of the supplies.

Even if your Branch is not along this corridor or in your Zone you are more than welcome to participate. 

Let's get this message out ASAP and advise me by July 28 the Branches who want to get involved as I have to respond back to the co-ordinator by the 30. We are also looking for individuals who can help co-ordinate this project in their given area.

There will be more information provided once we establish those that will participate.

Comrades this is very dear to our hearts and it is a shame that the amount of garbage strewn along The Highway of Heros has been done we need to respect this highway and be its caretakers.
