Hi All,

We’ve started to receive some inquiries and concerns related to an article about a ceremony for an Afghanistan memorial: https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/afghan-memorial-dedicated-in-ceremony-three-days-ago-officials-decided-to-limit-publicity?fbclid=IwAR0AkANSf11erxpWoCbFfv9s9ClJgH5Wa1qB-CN98aGVmExpHzV-RynBY6o

If you receive any questions, please note this article is lacking in some important context and may be causing some confusion. This story is about a memorial that existed in Afghanistan and was essentially relocated to Ottawa. We don’t have any information as to why certain people were not invited to the service, we were aware it was going to be held and it was our understanding that the Legion would be represented - but we did not receive an invitation as far as we can tell.

It is separate from the main Afghanistan memorial planned for Canada, which is not yet under construction as the exact location has been under discussion. Once complete however, it will be located outside in a place accessible to the public. We are part of the consultation group that is providing input on this memorial.

Hope this helps for now.
